Downtown Sparks will become a sparkling winter wonderland on December 11 and 12, 2015, as the Nugget Casino Resort and 39 North Downtown team up to host the inaugural 39 North Pole Village. This holiday light festival will feature thousands of twinkling lights, holiday shopping booths, great food, family fun and holiday cheer.

“So far, the response has been remarkable,” said Nugget Special Events and Entertainment Director Lisa Jansen. “More than 2,000 people have told us they’re coming by RSVPing on Facebook, and it’s not even December yet!”

The event will be held in the parking lot between the Nugget and the former Bourbon Square Casino. It will also expand to parts of Victorian Avenue for activities such as the Hot Chocolate Holiday Train and a special showing of The Polar Express in the Amphitheater.

More than 5,000 people are expected to visit 39 North Pole Village over the two-day event. Santa will be there to take requests and read special letters he has received to make this a truly special holiday tradition.

“39 North is excited to partner with the Nugget Casino Resort on this new event, but this truly is a community event, and we’re still seeking help from others in the community,” said Angela Handler, 39 North Events Director. “If you would like to help make this the best winter wonderland northern Nevada has ever seen, please join us as a sponsor, volunteer or holiday-decoration donor.”

People in the community who would like to sponsor or volunteer can contact Angela Handler at (775) 690-2581 or [email protected] for more information.

“We’re also seeking donations of new or gently used holiday lights and decorations,” said Jansen.

Donations can be dropped off at the Nugget Casino Resort’s Valet or at LoKa Tile, located at 972 E. Greg Street in Sparks.

In addition to holiday fun and cheer, the event will help raise funds for Doors to Recovery, a local non-profit that benefits children, adolescents and adults in the northern Nevada community recovering from addiction. Doors painted by local artists will be auctioned off at 39 North Pole to raise money the charity. Artists include Eric Brooks, Anja Phillips, Bryce Chisholm, Grady Schieve, Erik Holland, Carlos Martinez, Cat Stahl, Arthur Richmond and Stacie Mathewson. Some of the artists will be available for meet-and-greets during the event.
